God Didn't Mean What He Said ... DeBunked
Today’s blog is based on one of our first DeBunked videos—a timeless treatment of the Bible as the authoritative, inspired, true, and reliable Word of God. We invite you to read it, delve into the Scriptures, apply and share its message, and then watch (or rewatch) the DeBunked video for yourself by clicking the link at the end.

Do you really believe God meant what He said in the Bible?
That’s a question every Christian has to answer. Because our world is filled with opinions, reinterpretations, and skepticism, the reliability of God’s Word is constantly under attack. So let’s start with a foundational truth—the Bible is not just another book; it is the very Word of God.
God's Word Is Inspired and True
The Bible itself makes bold claims about its divine origin:
- 2 Timothy 3:16—“All Scripture is breathed out by God…”
- 2 Peter 1:21—“For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
- 1 Thessalonians 2:13—“…when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God…”
Since Scripture comes directly from God, we must also recognize its absolute truthfulness (Psalm 119:160, John 17:17, Proverbs 30:5). And because God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19), neither can His Word.
Despite these clear declarations, many today question whether God really meant what He said—especially when it comes to the parts of the Bible that challenge human understanding or modern scientific theories.
Did God Really Mean What He Said?
Let’s take a look at some of God’s direct commandments from Exodus 20:
- “You shall not murder” (v. 13).
- “You shall not bear false witness” (v. 16).
- “You shall not commit adultery” (v. 14).
Are these just suggestions? Metaphors? Obviously not. They are clear, direct, moral laws given by God Himself.
So, why do some people assume other parts of the Bible—like Genesis 1–11—are figurative or open to human reinterpretation? If God plainly said He created the world in six days (Genesis 1:31; Exodus 20:11), why do some Christians feel the need to twist those words to fit human reasoning?

The Danger of Picking and Choosing
If we start questioning which parts of the Bible God actually meant, where do we stop? If Genesis is just a myth, why believe in the Ten Commandments? If Adam and Eve weren’t real, what does that mean for Jesus, who affirmed their existence (Matthew 19:4–6)? If death existed before sin, then what did Christ’s death and resurrection accomplish?
Jesus Himself said, “If you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me” (John 5:46). That means if we don’t believe what Moses wrote in Genesis, why would we believe what Jesus said in the Gospels?
Tampering with God’s Word is dangerous. If we start treating parts of the Bible as untrue just because they conflict with human theories, then we make human reason the ultimate authority, not God.
The Verdict? DeBunked!
God could have created the world in billions of years. He could have used evolution. He could have done it any other way. But He didn’t. He did it exactly how He said He did.
Why? Because God’s Word is Truth (John 17:17), and He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). So, next time you hear someone suggest that certain parts of the Bible shouldn’t be taken literally, ask yourself: Who gets to decide what God really meant—Him or us?
Let’s trust God’s Word as it is written. Because if God said it, He meant it.
Application: Live and Share the Truth
- Study the Bible deeply—If God’s Word is true, then it’s worth knowing well! Make a commitment to spend time in Scripture daily and seek out trustworthy resources to deepen your understanding.
- Stand firm in conversations—Whether it’s a friend, family member, or coworker, be ready to gently and confidently defend the truth of God’s Word (1 Peter 3:15).
- Apply God’s truth in your daily life—If we truly believe God meant what He said, then our lives should reflect that truth. Walk in obedience and let Scripture guide your choices.
Call to Action: Speak Up and Share!
- Talk to someone this week about the reliability of God’s Word. Share a verse that has impacted your faith and explain why you trust what God has said.
- Post about it—Use your social media platform to stand for biblical truth! Share this blog or a Scripture that reinforces the unchanging nature of God’s Word.
- Join the discussion—Have a conversation with your Bible study group or church friends about the importance of taking God at His Word. Encourage one another to stand firm in the truth.
The world is full of voices that try to undermine Scripture. But as believers, we are called to uphold, live by, and share the truth. So let’s do it—because God meant what He said!
