Are You a Committed Christian?

Words have meanings.  Are you “committed”?  What’s that mean anyway?
O.K.!  Let’s just get it out of the way from the start.  I’m weird and my mind doesn’t operate the way other’s do sometimes.  That’s fine with me.  God wired me this way and it makes life interesting. 
But, here’s where it leads me sometimes.  (It’s time for another “Random Thought”, as if you couldn’t tell!!)  What do folks mean by the comment, “He/She is a “committed” Christian?” 
I hear this comment quite a bit.  Every time I have to ask, “What do you mean by that?”  Please understand, I’m not trying to make folks feel uncomfortable or anything by asking that, but that statement doesn’t make any sense to me! 
Let’s define the term before I go any further.  This is what I found in Dictionary.com: 
com·mit
verb (used with object), com·mit·ted, com·mit·ting.
1.  to give in trust or charge; consign.
2. to consign for preservation: to commit ideas to writing; to commit a poem to memory.
3.  to pledge (oneself) to a position on an issue or question; express (one’s intention, feeling, etc.): Asked if he was a candidate, he refused to commit himself.
4.  to bind or obligate, as by pledge or assurance; pledge: to commit oneself to a promise; to be committed to a course of action.
5. to entrust, especially for safekeeping; commend: to commit one’s soul to God. 
Do you see anything in there that Christians shouldn’t have in a personal relationship with Christ? 
Think about it this way, if we have “committed” Christians that would mean that we would also have “uncommitted” Christians??  What does that mean?  Let’s go back to the dictionary to see:

adjective
not committed, especially not pledged or bound to a specific cause, candidate, or course of action: uncommitted delegates; uncommitted reserves. 
That just doesn’t fit with what I see in the Scripture.  It reminds me of the line that someone’s “kinda’” pregnant!  It just isn’t possible in my humble opinion to be “luke warm” and be sold out for the Lord Jesus Christ.
When I read the Scripture I see verses like these: 
Deuteronomy 11:19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Matthew 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
I don’t see any “half-stepping” here. 
Now, let me hasten to say I’m not judging your relationship with Christ, that’s for you to do.  The body of Christ is very diverse and each of us have different gifts.  I’m suggesting that regardless of what your gifting’s are, if you are a Christian you HAVE to be committed and active in using the gifts the Lord has graciously given us. 
Our level of commitment isn’t necessarily based on how often you attend church or Bible studies.  It’s not even based on how many chapters you read in the Bible or how many people you share the Gospel with.  Now, all of these are very important and probably are a good indicator of your relationship with the Lord, I just can’t judge your relationship.  That’s not my job.  I’ve got enough on my plate looking at my life and my relationship than to try and tell you what you need to do. 
Let me end with this.  If you claim Christ as your Savior may I encourage you to look at your relationship with Him.  If you find yourself going through the motions and aren’t certain of your relationship, get on your face before the Lord and pray for the Lord to put a fire in you for Him. 
If you don’t know the Lord, may the Holy Spirit pull the scales off of your eye’s so that you see where you stand before God apart from the shed blood of Christ. Once you see this please confess your sins, repent and allow God to create within you a new heart and mind.  When that happens you will experience a passion that I pray will never diminish in your life.
