Here’s to you Mr. Robertson…
Christians must take a stand in the culture wars that we’re faced with. Praise God for men like Mr. Robertson!
The Christian community has spent the past decades more concerned about internal issues than the real battle taking place all around us. We have not focused on the reality that God’s Truth is being attacked in our schools and workplaces, in our media, and in every imaginable social environment (we cannot even greet people with Merry CHRISTmas anymore, or pray in public places). We are even being told what we can and cannot believe. Yet, instead of collectively looking outward to fight this battle, we have looked inward and fought amongst ourselves. We debate denomination vs. denomination, pre-tribulation vs. post-tribulation, or even what bible translation is best. Fill in the blank; the list goes on and on with divisive issues in the Christian world.
In the meantime, people who take direct opposition to the Word of God have united and have made a consistent effort to influence others. Their goal is to have people be empowered by their own thinking and their own definition of truth instead of God’s Word and His Truth. They have attacked the Word while we were busy attacking ourselves. 78.4% of adults in America state they are Christians, yet rule after rule, law after law has been written against the beliefs of Christianity. (1)
In the past century Christians have sat passively on the sidelines and, for the most part, watched this happen. The verse “turn the other cheek” (Matthew 5-38-40) has been, in our eyes, a justification for not getting involved. Matthew 24:9-14 foretells of Christians being attacked in the end times, so this is just part of it. Right? Wrong! The Word does not tell us that we are supposed to just sit and watch the destruction. Rather, we are supposed to respond. We are to give answers, and to do so with meekness and fear (1 Peter 3:15). We know we will be persecuted, and we must remember the words of the Lord, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.” (Matthew 5:11)
It is undeniable that this country was built on the Word of God and at one time it was a nation of God-fearing people. People need rules and guidelines to follow; the sin in the garden ensured that. God gave us those rules and guidelines in his Word, and the United States of America followed them and God blessed our nation. Why, because it was built on the Word of God. It is time to start defending that fact, Christians; not hide from it.
Hopefully, and prayerfully an event this past week may have changed the passiveness of the Christian community. Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame has taken, whether willfully or by chance, the helm in uniting Christians. No more “my denomination is better than your denomination;” no more sitting on the sidelines; no more having somebody tell us what we can or cannot say; no more allowing somebody to take the picture of Jesus Christ or the Ten Commandments out of a public place; no more allowing someone to tell us we cannot pray anywhere, anytime; and no more allowing somebody to tell us we have to pay for birth control in our health plan when that birth control aborts babies in the womb. The list goes on and on.
Yes, we must act with character, and with meekness and gentleness, not in hate or anger, but we must act! We must challenge unbiblical rules, laws and media, and speak out at our school board meetings, city council meetings and other governmental forums. We must be united and we must remember it is the devil and sin that is leading this attack on God and His Word. He will not go down without a fight. Stand tall, stand firm, stand united and stand on the Word of God. It is time!
And as for Phil Robertson, these words keep running through my head (song lyrics adapted).
Here’s to you Mr. Robertson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know, wo wo wo.
God bless you please, Mr. Robertson,
Heaven holds a place for those who pray, hey hey hey
Hey hey hey. (2)
Pray that our nation will “turn its lonely eyes” to God and will no longer “hide in the hiding places where no one ever goes.”(3) Commit today to stand strong on the Word of God and let 2014 be a year in which you boldly share God’s truth with meekness and gentleness.
Now, until next year…..Koo-koo-ka-choo (does anybody really know what that means?)
